Laird Telemedia to Highlight New LTM-ER4HD Router for NLE Systems at NAB2006

Mount Marion, N.Y. — March 13, 2006 — Laird Telemedia, a leading designer and manufacturer of digital video and professional audio broadcast products, will showcase its latest router, designed primarily for nonlinear editing (NLE) systems, the LTM-ER4HD, at NAB2006. The LTM-ER4HD allows users to switch and control up to four external digital or analog video devices to and from a NLE system or post-production switcher.

The LTM-ER4HD builds on the worldwide success of the LTM-ER4 analog NLE router, which was introduced by Laird in 1998. Features for NAB2006 include the ability to select audio, video, or RS422 independently to or from the NLE and built-in 1:1 machine-to-machine override for dubbing functions. Besides its routing capabilities, the LTM-ER4HD also provides full duplex RS422 machine control with the touch of only one button. It supports HD, SDI, component, YC, and composite video, along with AES/EBU digital or balanced analog audio signals.

“The LTM-ER4HD can greatly simplify the post-production process,” said Nigel Redman, vice president of engineering at Laird. “By allowing post-production and other professionals to switch and control up to four external digital or analog video devices to the NLE or post switcher, in all major formats, it saves an enormous amount of time and machine wear and tear, which translates to money saved during this process.”

The LTM-ER4HD is a 1-GHz bandwidth, high-performance product capable of handling SDI, HD, component, YC, and composite video processing. Digital audio AES/EBU is also supported. A utility port is available to control other Laird add-ons such as the LTM-ER4DX2 digital FireWire® SPIDIF switcher. The product is housed in a 3-RU EIA rack-mount unit and works in PAL or NTSC.

LTM-6000D INERTIA — More Power Than Ever Before: Any Format to Any Format, including SDI and DV, Plus SMPTE LTC and VITC Timecode Support.

Mount Marion, N.Y. — February 28, 2006 At NAB2006 Laird will introduce the latest edition in the award-winning line of Laird media converters — the LTM-6000D. Building on the success of the LTM-6000C, the LTM-6000D functions as a stand-alone audio and video signal converter, with new features that include timecode insertion and a new operating menu system. The LTM-6000D continues the Laird tradition of delivering the finest quality all-format video conversion for formats that include SDI, DV, component, S-Video, composite, AES/EBU digital audio, and balanced analog audio — with simultaneous outputs. Control is through a Web-style menu system for an intuitive operator interface.

Laird’s exclusive timecode insertion feature eliminates the problems of working with timecode in DV. External SMPTE LTC and VITC can now be serialized and deserialized with the LTM-6000D, providing a powerful post production feature that upgrades DV to broadcast-style timecode stripping. Separate BNC inputs and outputs are provided for LTC and VITC timecodes.

The LTM-6000D also features RS422 control of compatible equipment over FireWire®, and RS232 remote and proc-amp control for full remote control of all the features of the LTM-6000D.

LTM-DV4X1A FireCut Plus 1394 DV Switcher — The LTM-DV4X1A is a bold leap forward in DV-based technology, providing simple, cost-effective switching. This digital production tool accepts DV IEEE 1394 (FireWire®) inputs from up to four DV devices, such as VTRs, cameras, or NLEs, and will lock and switch any of the four sources glitch-free. Devices used do not have to be genlocked or synchronous. The LTM-DV4X1A also allows insertion of external audio into the DV stream from either a line level or microphone source. The switcher features simple front-panel push buttons that allow simple and easy operation. Two of the compact units fit in one LTM-RK2 Rackmount Adapter (1-RU).

LTM-DVDA5P IEEE 1394 DA — The LTM-DVDA5P, a two-input, five-output DV distribution amplifier, is the ideal tool for multiple NLE downloads or producing multiple copies of edited media, and it is perfect for any applications requiring split DV signal monitoring, DV duplication, DV mastering, or hard-drive cloning. It operates with all PC and Mac systems and with DV VTRs and DVCAMs. Two of the compact units fit in one LTM-RK2 Rackmount Adapter (1-RU).

Laird Creates Video Production System For People with Disabilities

New Wheelchair Video Camera Mount Delivers Creative Accessibility

MOUNT MARION, NY — October 14, 2004 — Laird announced today the launch of a new system for mounting a video camera on a wheelchair.  This system, named VGO, gives a wheelchair user full control over their video camera.  This new wheelchair video system helps broadcasters, educators, AV and media departments meet ADA and Section 508 compliance in a new creative way.

“Up until now, the use of a video camera for someone in a wheelchair has been difficult if not impossible,” said Chase Pierson from DCTV.  “Laird has tackled and solved this problem by working with its engineering team, consultants, and from the personal experiences of our own employees who use assistive devices to access technology,” said Laird Director of Operations, Paku Misra.

The broadcast video wheelchair system comes equipped with a steel swing out arm and a camera tripod head mounted on it for safe and steady camera movement.  The arm can easily swing out of the way when the user needs to enter or exit their wheelchair.  The entire system can be removed simply from the wheelchair by releasing the two locking knobs.

VGO is available with two choices of tripod heads:  Either a normal hand operated version or an electronic head that adds automatic controls of camera start, stop, record, lens focus and zoom as well as full pan and tilt capability.  All of these features are controlled from a cabled handheld remote.

There is an optional 5.6” color LCD monitor system and clamp available so users can view exactly what the camera is recording without having to be near the camera.

The VGO wheelchair system brings creative accessibility to people with disabilities for shooting broadcast, wedding, and training videos as well as other multimedia productions.

Laird Telemedia products, including the VGO Wheelchair Video System, are available from a worldwide network of professional dealers.  For images and more information about VGO, log on to http://www.lairdtelemedia.com/pr

LAIRD’S DVora™ SYSTEMS BRING HIGH-QUALITY EDITING SOLUTION TO HIGH SCHOOL BROADCAST STUDIOS

New York and Georgia high schools deploy DVora Media Engines to offer
advanced editing platform for film, video, and broadcast production

(Mount Marion, NY) July 9, 2003 -- Laird Telemedia today announced that Gwinnett County Public Schools, Georgia’s largest school district, and New York’s Nyack School District are among the increasing number of educational institutions incorporating the DVora Media Engine into their high schools’ broadcast studios. Configured with Avid XPress DV 3 editing software, Laird’s DVora systems provide an advanced editing solution with professional-grade features and performance.

“ We chose Laird’s DVora systems for our studios because they allowed us to avoid the pitfalls of integrating new hardware and software into existing PCs,” said Joe Leonard, media development manager for the Broadcast and Distance Learning Department within Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Information Management Division.

“ I also enjoy knowing that the DVora systems enable our students to take valuable Avid editing experience with them as they move on to post-secondary education, college, or the professional workplace. Virtually every one of our high schools has some form of video production capabilities, either for editing or for producing live morning broadcasts, and we’ve put the DVora on our basic equipment list for any new studio build-outs.”

Alayne Smith, who teaches video and film courses at Brookwood High School in Gwinnett County, cites the DVora’s compatibility with Adobe’s Photoshop software as a key benefit, while Kathy Buckley of Nyack High School appreciates the ease of use and creative flexibility the system provides. Both school systems are using their DVora systems for advanced coursework in broadcast production and journalism, creating everything from daily news programs and monthly news magazines to PSAs, commercials, and music videos.

“ I switched to the DVora editor because Laird offered reliable support and the best package for our studio’s needs,” said Buckley, teacher and technical director for Nyack High School’s Da Vinci TV Studio, which features six DVora systems. “The kids get a lot more excited about editing work because they can be so much more inventive with the DVora than they could with our old analog equipment.”

The DVora Media Engine loaded, tested, and configured with Avid Xpress DV 3 is a fully integrated non-linear editing system that combines an Intel-based PC with component, composite, S-VHS, and balanced audio direct-to-digital I/Os. Laird’s proprietary circuit design delivers a horizontally stable, true RS170A SCH locked signal, while the company’s DVora technology stabilizes the DV signal for broadcast applications, making the signal compatible to all SMPTE/EBU standards.

“ Educators at the high school and university levels are finding Avid Xpress DV 3 to be the editing platform of choice for teaching and training purposes,” said Charles W. Wagor III, director of operations at Laird Telemedia. “Truly professional film and video editing simply cannot be taught correctly with appliance devices. Our turnkey DVora systems with Avid Xpress DV provide a wide range of high-end features without exceeding the budgetary constraints of most educational institutions.”

Laird Telemedia’s advanced, proprietary DV technologies for the broadcasting and recording industries are available from Laird’s worldwide network of professional distributors. For a full list of available systems, visit www.lairdtelemedia.com.
